Katie Whiting
Co-Founder
Katie Whiting, born and raised in Arizona, is a dedicated educator embarking on a new chapter as she starts at a new school. With six years of teaching experience under her belt, Katie has a deep commitment to fostering a supportive and dynamic learning environment. Her journey as a mother of six has enriched her perspective and teaching approach, blending personal experience with professional expertise to inspire and engage her students.

Stefani Borrego
Co-Founder
Stefani Borrego taught high school and middle school health and coached the Lathrop High School Ballroom Dance team for over 20 years in Fairbanks, Alaska. She moved to Pinetop in 2021 and has subbed at the local schools for 3 years. She is active in her church community. She enjoys recreational activities, playing board games, attending musicals, doing photo books and spending time with friends and family.

Mike Schimmel
Teacher
Mike Schimmel moved to Pinetop, Arizona as a second-grader in 1970 and has lived here off and on since then. He has taught mostly 5th grade for 23 years and has recently retired from the Blue Ridge District. He is a father of four and is married to Beth Schimmel. He loves spending time with his family, traveling, wood working, and hanging out with friends.

Tanya Melluse
Teacher
Tanya Melluse, an Arizona native, graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northcentral University in 2016. She was dedicated to Blue Ridge Elementary for nine years where she served as a 4th-grade Teacher and Team Lead (for 8 of her 9 years) in addition to many other roles. In her personal life, Mrs. Melluse enjoys spending time with loved ones, the outdoors, reading, movies, and spending time with her beloved animals. Mrs. Melluse is extremely excited to be commencing the journey with Explore AZ!

Spencer Brandon
Teacher
Spencer Brandon has taught music for 4 years. He has a passion for music of many varieties, and loves to help others express their musical interests. Spencer trained at Scott Gentry Studio of Music and played in the White mountain Symphony Orchestra. He received an honorable mention at the Northern Arizona Piano Competition. He has experience with many instruments, which he will be giving introductions to throughout the semester. Spencer enjoys working with kids and is excited to teach many of the instruments that he loves!
